Free Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern
I have been on an ear warmer crochet binge lately so thought I would share this free ear warmer crochet pattern with you. I just love the classy look of these stitches and how quick and easy this pattern is.
I got the idea for this ear warmer from the brim of my Lydia Beanie. I knew when I designed the beanie that I would be using the brim for more than one crochet project. I just love the look of it.
For this ear warmer, you will need to know how to foundation double crochet stitch, front post double crochet stitch and back post double crochet stitch. I have video tutorials on my YouTube channel for all of them.
This pattern is so versatile. You can make this ear warmer in any size you want and with any yarn weight. You will just need to measure as you work the pattern.
If you are a visual learner like I am, you can find the video tutorial for this ear warmer crochet pattern on my YouTube channel.
Autumn Ridges Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern
Materials:
79-87 yards (72-80 meters) of worsted weight yarn
I9/5.5 mm crochet hook
Measuring Tape
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Abbreviations:
FDC– Foundation Double Crochet Stitch
DC- Double Crochet
FPDC– Front Post Double Crochet Stitch
BPDC– Back Post Double Crochet Stitch
SLST- Slip Stitch
CH- Chain
Notes:
This pattern is written for a small adult size. You can easily adjust this pattern to fit any size you need.
I am a tight crocheter so be sure to use measurements and not stitch count so you can get an accurate sizing.
To adjust this pattern, make your starting chain just a little shorter than your desired length. Be sure to measure the chain unstretched.
For the orange colored ear warmer, I used Caron Simply Soft yarn in the color pumpkin. I foundation double crochet stitched until my chain measured 18.25 inches, unstretched and I went 7 rounds to get a width of 3 inches. I used 79 yards (72 meters) of yarn.
For the mustard colored ear warmer, I used I Love This Yarn in the color Sungold. I foundation double crochet stitched until my chain measured 18.25 inches, unstretched and I went 8 rounds to get a width of 3.75 inches. I used 87 yards (80 meters) of yarn.
Pattern:
FDC 72 or until you reach your desired length (if you prefer to traditional chain- chain until you are a little over your desired length then DC in 3rd CH from hook and DC in each remaining ST in row before starting round 1)
Round 1: SLST to 1st DC, CH 2, DC in same ST as CH 2, FPDC in next ST, BPDC in next ST, *DC in next ST, FPDC in next ST, BPDC in next ST*, repeat from * until the end of the round.
Round 2: Keep repeating Round 1 until you reach your desired width
Fasten off and weave in ends. Use your tail of yarn from your slip stitch to sew the gap between first double crochet and last double crochet together.

I so loved this pattern. So easy to whip up a bunch of these in no time at all. I was able to put 8 of these in our Blessings Box at church. I plan on doing it again this year. It gets quite cold up here in MN and frost bite is no joke! I feel better knowing 8 people in my town have warm ears this winter!
admin
Oh that is so great to hear! You are so kind to do that and what a blessing! Not only did you give 8 people warm ears this winter but I am betting those people feel extra special knowing it was handmade! 🙂
Ashley
I love the texture! So Beautiful!!!
